An Evening Of Beautifully Crafted Cosmic Americana with Americana UK Award Winners…
with Special Guests The Wonky Folk
“Switching deftly between deliciously sentimental Americana and swaggering psychedelia!” (Uncut Magazine)
“Hazy desert dreams of songs, nicely sharpened with steely-eyed guitars and Mersey-laced harmonies – a shimmering sliver of post-summer brilliance!” (The Guardian)
We’re delighted to welcome a return show to Portsmouth for a band that are undoubtedly the hottest ticket on the UK Americana scene at the present time! Welcome to the mind-blowing world of The Hanging Stars!
Blending folk pastoralism with swampy 60’s Americana, The Hanging Stars sound like the missing link between the California desert sun and the grey skies of London Town. The Hanging Stars channel the sounds of The Byrds, Big Star and The Flying Burrito Brothers with hints of Mojave 3 and The Allah Las – mainlining the dying embers of the early 70s psychedelic folk and cosmic country scenes.
Americana UK wrote that with “A New Kind Of Sky’ “… the band have forged a sparkling album which, on the strength of the songs and the sheer excellence of the playing, allows that it too might one day be considered a classic.”
With the bands epic offering “Hollow Heart” crashing into the upper echelons of the official Americana charts, the start of 2023 has been a rollercoaster for The Hanging Stars, starting at the Americana UK Awards, where they received the Bob Harris Emerging Artist of 2023 Award, presented by Bob himself. Robert Plant was also present and stomped and clapped along as the band tore through a couple of songs to much acclaim from an audience of their peers.
