We’re delighted to welcome the genius songwriter that is Gerry Colvin and his band, back to the beautiful Square Tower for an evening of festive fun and seasonal songs, and as if that weren’t enough, he will be joined by Marion Fleetwood (violin), Gemma Shirley (violin), Maddy Evans (viola) and Sarah Lane Rees (cello).
“He’s one of the finest writers and performers this country’s produced!” (Mike Davies, Roots and Branches)
In the 80’s, Gerry co-founded and fronted legendary John Peel favourites, skiffle-cowpunk outfit Terry & Gerry, and toured Europe and the USA as well as making countless radio and TV appearances including The Tube and The Old Grey Whistle Test. Following that, in the early 90’s, he worked in Nashville as a professional songwriter, and also collaborated with Alison Moyet co-writing on an album project.
But most of you will remember him from much missed folk-pop band ColvinQuarmby – their live appearances were the stuff of folk-lore, and along with Nick Quarmby, Martin Fitzgibbon and Dave Duffield, they were voted ‘Best Live Band’ at Fairport Conventions Cropredy Festival.
“Multi-talented combining catchy melodies with thoughtful lyrics – his stage performance combines Frank Sinatra, Lee Evans and Johnny Cash…Genius? Madcap? Maverick? Yes, all of these things and more!” (Stratford Herald)
Gerry then pulled together a new band following the sad passing of Nick Quarmby, and they continue to wow and entertain audiences up and down the country and Europe, with Gerry earning his reputation as one of the most endearing and energetic performers on the planet!
“More hooks than a fisherman’s convention…chirpier than a bucketful of Trill..” (Folk On Tap Magazine)
