The Sandy Denny Project is a coming together of six highly talented musicians who have joined forces to perform and celebrate the music of Britain’s greatest female singer songwriter.

As endorsed by Georgia Rose Lucas – Sandy Denny’s daughter – “These pioneers of folk bring a whole lot of professional awesomeness to the table with The Sandy Denny Project, covering some of my mum’s best work and doing an outstanding job of keeping her flame alive…”

With every year, Sandy’s reputation continues to grow in stature as a songwriter and interpreter of traditional material, and the six musicians in the band who share an impressive folk rock pedigree are each at the very top of their musical game. Sandy’s remarkable writing is approached not as a tribute band, slavishly copying the records, but as a tribute in it’s best sense – an interpretation of her wonderful work.

Fotheringay MkII members Sally Barker (The Poozies, BBC TV’s The Voice, IOTA) and guitarist PJ Wright (Trad Arrr, The Dylan Project) are joined by multi instrumentalist Marion Fleetwood (voice, fiddles, guitars – Feat Of Fiddles, Trad Arrr, IOTA), Gemma Shirley (keyboards and vocals – Trad Arrr) and the rhythm section of bassist Mat Davies and drummer Mark Stevens from folk rock legends Little Johnny England to form The Sandy Denny Project.

“Then there’s that encore! We’d have been content with “Who Knows Where The Time Goes”, but instead that became the centrepiece of a trio of Sandy’s finest – an absolute hat-trick of consummate performance. The best encore I’ve seen in years!” (The Living Tradition)

Since the bands creation in 2019, they have been hailed as one of the best performers of the works of Sandy by those who knew and played with her.

Their joy in performing the work of Sandy Denny is contagious, taking their audiences on an emotional musical journey through her best loved songs, leaving the dazzled!
